My Windows box at work began slowing down tremendously a couple months ago. After bashing my head against the wall awhile, I found the problem was my c:\windows\temp\ directory was filled to overflowing with Acr*.tmp files: AcrA015.tmp, AcrE30D.tmp, et cetera, until the hard drive was full. Emptying the temp directory solved part of the problem — my machine worked fine again. Unfortunately, something was writing hundreds of these small files every day. Apparently this was not a new issue. Adobe Acrobat Reader Freezes Acr*.tmp (http://www NULL.feeds4all NULL.com/Item NULL.aspx?ItemID=12150528)
In the end, I found this post (http://www NULL.adobeforums NULL.com/cgi-bin/webx?14 null@null null@null NULL.3bc0bde4/33) on AdobeForums.com (http://www NULL.adobeforums NULL.com/):
I found the file to be renamed at C:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\AcroRdIf.dll . Hopefully you can find it there. I renamed the file and haven’t seen the acr.tmp problem for weeks since I did the rename to AcroRdIf.dll.old
John F Ervin
That did it: I renamed C:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\AcroRdIf.dll to C:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\AcroRdIf.dll.old and thus far, no more .tmp files.

Interesting… It appears that Adobe has deleted the post you linked to. Searching the site for AcroRdIf finds this though:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservic.....lId=330414 (http://kb NULL.adobe NULL.com/selfservice/viewContent NULL.do?externalId=330414)
They’re advising people to upgrade to 8.0, rename the DLL or stop the Windows indexer (wonder what that has to do with it).
Thanks for the update, Joe!
Muchas gracias. Me quitaron un problema de encima. Un saludo desde Lima- Perú

Hi! it might be a little late, but for the info, I had the same problem and I simply get rid off Adobe, and got Foxit reader instead. The temp files stopped accumulating since. Plus foxit opens PDF so much faster. bye
try this: link (http://kb NULL.adobe NULL.com/selfservice/viewContent NULL.do?externalId=329444&sliceId=1)
adobe sucks for letting this happen.
Also, might be a little late….but I had the same problem. The Adobe Ifilter creates multiple .tmp files when the iFilter searches through adobe files. I read in some post that someone wondered what Indexing services had to do with it.
Well in my case, we use Win. Indexing service for indexing our websites. The iFilter is used to search through adobe files when someone searches the website.
Hope this helps….
